Project 1:
Geometry and Form: Architectural Design Elements & Principles
In this project, we were assigned to develop a foundational understanding of architectural design elements and principles, including the processes and approaches for generating ideas and creating both 2D tattoo stamps and 3D models. The Primary Elements : point, line, plane, volume/form and Ordering Principles : axis, symmetry, hierarchy, datum, rhythm, repetition serve as the building blocks for design expression. The project guides students through a workshop-based exploration of design elements and principles, encouraging a blend of critical and creative thinking. Regular interaction with assigned tutors facilitates the exchange of ideas during the creative process.
process (what i've done)
Project Understanding:
-
Grasp the project's goal: introducing architectural design elements and principles for 2D tattoo stamps and 3D models.
Research and Conceptualization:
-
Conduct research on primary elements (point, line, plane, volume/form) and ordering principles (axis, symmetry, hierarchy, datum, rhythm, repetition).
-
Explore existing examples of tattoo stamps and 3D architectural models to gather inspiration.
Ideation and Sketching:
-
Brainstorm and generate ideas for the design, keeping in mind the identified primary elements and ordering principles.
-
Translate conceptual ideas into rough sketches, considering both 2D and 3D aspects.
Material Selection and Technique Exploration:
-
Explore materials suitable for creating and 3D models.
-
Experiment with techniques that align with the chosen primary elements and ordering principles.
Feedback and Refinement:
-
Share initial sketches with assigned tutors for feedback.
-
Refine and iterate on the designs based on the received feedback, ensuring alignment with the project goals.
Finalization and Presentation:
-
Finalize the designs, ensuring they reflect a comprehensive understanding of architectural design elements and principles.
-
Prepare a presentation showcasing the evolution of ideas, the design process, and the final tattoo stamps and 3D models.

reflection
Project 1 was a dynamic journey through the basics of architectural design. It focused on introducing design elements and principles, guiding the generation of ideas, design development, and translating concepts into tangible forms. The iterative process involved research, sketching, and valuable feedback from tutors, contributing to the refinement of designs. Practical aspects such as material selection and technique exploration were emphasized, enhancing the hands-on experience in the workshop-based studio. The integration of critical and creative thinking, along with collaboration, enriched the overall design process. The culmination resulted in well-articulated designs, reflecting a robust understanding of architectural design fundamentals.
tgc's acquired:
In TGC 3.1, I've sharpened my creativity by identifying key architectural design elements and principles. The ability to translate these concepts into tattoo stamps and 3D forms reflects a broader proficiency in model making, diagramming, and design. The process undertaken highlights my articulate approach, showcasing critical and analytical thinking in the realm of architectural design.
In TGC 1.1, I've demonstrated a broad and coherent understanding of design theories and key concepts. This knowledge base has significantly contributed to generating design intentions. Expressing design principles with informed intention has become a more purposeful and informed aspect of my design process. These modules collectively enhance both my creative and knowledge-driven approach to architectural design.
