Final Project :
SPATIAL EXPLORATION & MANIPULATION
(individual)

In Assignment 3, the focus is to create a space for a client highlighting three distinct moods with an emphasis on light and shadow effects. The goal is to offer an immersive experience where people can personally encounter these lighting variations as they move through the space. By carefully selecting materials and spatial arrangements, I aim to craft an ambiance that resonates with each mood, ensuring the client's journey is truly captivating and memorable. This project challenges me to showcase the transformative power of light, leaving a lasting impression on the client's perception of the environment

Design Process: Embracing Wonder - Creating Poetic Spaces Based on My Three Moods (mock up)

  1. Mood Identification and Self-Selection:

    • Choose "Embracing Wonder" as the overarching concept to unify the three moods - curious, content, and peace.

    • Embrace myself as the client to foster a personal and profound design experience.

  2. Conceptualizing the Emotions:

    • Explore the concept of "Embracing Wonder" to envision how it manifests in curious, content, and peace-inspired spaces.

    • Infuse personal stories and emotions into the design, connecting each mood with the essence of wonder.

  3. Incorporating Personal Traits:

    • Integrate my unique traits, values, and experiences into the design process.

    • Ensure that the poetic spaces reflect my individuality and evoke a sense of wonder in each mood.

  4. Poetic Expression through Lighting:

    • Employ lights and shadows as a poetic tool to express and heighten the sense of wonder within each space.

    • Experiment with various lighting arrangements to evoke curiosity, contentment, and tranquility.

  5. Spatial Arrangements and Geometry:

    • Explore regular and irregular geometric shapes, harmonizing them to create an ambiance that embraces wonder.

    • Develop spatial qualities that inspire awe and spark curiosity, contentment, and peace.

  6. Limitations of Organic Shapes:

    • Apply organic shapes sparingly to maintain the abstract and poetic essence of the spaces.

    • Seek tutor consultation if needed, while prioritizing the emotive representation of wonder.

  7. Prototyping and Model Creation:

    • Create mock-up models for each mood, using "Embracing Wonder" as the guiding thread.

    • Embrace the iterative process to refine designs and ensure that each space conveys wonder effectively.

  8. Seamlessly Merging Moods:

    • Strive to achieve seamless transitions and a cohesive narrative that unites the diverse emotions.

    • Aim to create a unified design that immerses occupants in wonder throughout their journey.

Design Process: Building a Final Model with Improved Transitions and overall form

  1. Analyzing Mock-Up Models:

    • Review and analyze the mock-up models created during the design exploration phase.

    • Identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas that require improvement in each mock-up.

  2. Defining Design Objectives:

    • Clearly define the design objectives for the final model, incorporating feedback from evaluations and reflections on the mock-ups.

    • Set specific goals to ensure smoother transitions between the three models and overall coherence in the design.

  3. Integrating Key Elements:

    • Identify common elements, design features, and aspects that contribute to the concept and emotional experience across all three models.

    • Focus on integrating these key elements seamlessly to enhance continuity and create a unified design narrative.

  4. Refining Spatial Arrangements:

    • Fine-tune the spatial arrangements of each model to ensure smoother transitions between different spaces.

    • Pay close attention to spatial flows and connections, aiming for an intuitive and cohesive journey for occupants.

  5. Harmonizing Lighting and Shadows:

    • Experiment with lighting and shadow techniques to create a consistent and emotive ambiance throughout the models.

    • Ensure that lighting choices complement the intended moods and evoke a sense of wonder in each space.

  6. Iterative Development:

    • Adopt an iterative design approach, continuously refining the models based on feedback and insights.

    • Evaluate the impact of changes on the transitions and overall coherence of the design.

  7. Storytelling through Design:

    • Incorporate storytelling elements that thread through the three models, guiding occupants through a compelling narrative.

    • Consider how the spatial journey enhances the storytelling experience and emotional connection.

  8. Seamlessly Connecting Themes:

    • Ensure that the themes of curiosity, contentment, and peace are seamlessly connected, allowing occupants to experience a smooth emotional transition.

    • Use design elements, lighting, and spatial arrangements to subtly bridge the emotions, reflecting the human experience.

  9. Iterative Refinement:

    • Continue refining the transitions and connections between the models until a sense of flow and harmony is achieved.

    • Consider occupant feedback and engage in self-reflection to further improve the design.

  10. Final Evaluation:

    • Evaluate the final model against the initial design objectives and concept of "Embracing Wonder."Assess the success of creating a design that facilitates smoother emotional transitions between each space.
